Delta Zeta was founded on October 24, 1902 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Six women - Alfa Lloyd, Anna Keen, Mabelle Minton, Mary Collins, Julia Bishop, and Anne Simmons - felt the need for a sisterhood in a predominantly male school. After seeing the fellowship the men projected through their fraternities, the ladies decided to form their own sorority, and the idea of Delta Zeta was born.

Guy Potter Benton, president of the university at that time and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, was very influential in helping the women form the sorority, and as a result is the only man ever to wear the Delta Zeta badge.

The women met at Alfa Lloyd's house to discuss the matters of the sorority, including the writing of the Constitution and Code of Regulations.

The legacy of sisterhood that our founders left can be seen in over 160 collegiate chapters that are a part of the Delta Zeta sisterhood, making Delta Zeta one of the top three largest sororities in the United States.

Our Chapter's Local and National History

The Lambda Nu Chapter was founded at Auburn University of Montgomery on April 22, 1977. Which made us the first out of the three Panhellenic sororities on AUM’s campus. We have been an active chapter for 38 years in which we have established traditions, accomplished many achievements, and most importantly formed livelong friendships.

Our Chapter has won National Awards for the money raised and the hours devoted to our Philanthropy through events such as the annual Pancake Dinner which Delta Zeta has been hosting for a few years in a row.

The Lambda Nu Chapter is not only raising money for the National Philanthropies, Starkey Hearing Foundation and the Painted Turtle Camp, but also for the local AUM Speech and Hearing Clinic, where some of our members even work and are able to see and experience the difference we are making first hand.

What makes Lambda Nu really special isn’t our accomplishments, but the friendships that have been formed and are growing for years. We, as collegiate members, have a very close bond with the Alumnae. There is always an Alumna ready and willing to help the chapter with whatever it might be, for example creating a dance choreography to participate in and even win another Sororities Lip Jam contest.
